An example Bazi chart, end to end
This is a complete example of what a BaziTrace chart looks like. The birth information below is a fictional example, used to show the layout, the calculations, and the honest limitations of the engine.
- Gregorian birth date
- 1990-06-15
- Local birth time
- 09:30
- Birth city
- Shown for reference; not used in the calculation
辛 — Xīn Metal · yin
辛 is the yin Metal day stem. Traditional imagery is a starting reference, not a personality verdict.
The day master is the stem on the day pillar. In traditional reading it is a starting point, not a verdict.
The four pillars
庚午Year pillar — gēng-wǔ
- Stem (天干)
- 庚 · gēng · Metal · yang
- Branch (地支)
- 午 · wǔ · Fire · yang
庚 is a yang Metal heavenly stem.
午 is a yang Fire earthly branch.
The year pillar changes at Li Chun (around February 4). Birth city is not used to adjust this boundary.
壬午Month pillar — rén-wǔ
- Stem (天干)
- 壬 · rén · Water · yang
- Branch (地支)
- 午 · wǔ · Fire · yang
壬 is a yang Water heavenly stem.
午 is a yang Fire earthly branch.
The month pillar changes at the precise solar-term boundary, not on a fixed Gregorian day.
辛亥Day pillar — xīn-hài
- Stem (天干)
- 辛 · xīn · Metal · yin
- Branch (地支)
- 亥 · hài · Water · yin
辛 is a yin Metal heavenly stem.
亥 is a yin Water earthly branch.
The day pillar follows the reference library’s sect 2 convention: 23:00–23:59 stays on the current civil date.
癸巳Hour pillar — guǐ-sì
- Stem (天干)
- 癸 · guǐ · Water · yin
- Branch (地支)
- 巳 · sì · Fire · yin
癸 is a yin Water heavenly stem.
巳 is a yin Fire earthly branch.
The hour pillar uses two-hour branches; Zi covers 23:00–00:59 under the documented sect 2 convention.
Five elements (wu-xing) tally
How this is counted. Each pillar contributes two characters: the heavenly stem on top and the earthly branch on the bottom. We count one occurrence for each character, so the total is always 8 (with hour) or 6 (without hour). Hidden stems inside branches are not counted.
Ten gods (十神) and hidden stems (藏干)
Each visible stem is labelled by its relationship to the day master. The hidden stems inside each earthly branch are listed from the main layer down. These are structural labels — they describe the chart, not the person.
- Year pillar庚yang Metal stem → Rob wealth (劫财)
Hidden stems in this branch (2)
- 丁yin Fire · main → Seven killings (七杀)
- 己yin Earth · secondary → Indirect seal (偏印)
- Month pillar壬yang Water stem → Hurting officer (伤官)
Hidden stems in this branch (2)
- 丁yin Fire · main → Seven killings (七杀)
- 己yin Earth · secondary → Indirect seal (偏印)
- Day pillar辛yin Metal stem → Companion (比肩)
Hidden stems in this branch (2)
- 壬yang Water · main → Hurting officer (伤官)
- 甲yang Wood · secondary → Direct wealth (正财)
- Hour pillar癸yin Water stem → Eating god (食神)
Hidden stems in this branch (3)
- 丙yang Fire · main → Direct officer (正官)
- 戊yang Earth · secondary → Direct seal (正印)
- 庚yang Metal · residual → Rob wealth (劫财)
The ten-god label for a stem comes from the five-element cycle and its yin/yang match with the day master. Hidden stems come from a fixed, documented table; the engine never invents them.
Three starting observations
Each observation points to specific characters on the chart above. The list is fixed at three: your day master, your day master element count, and the most-present element tally.
- Your day master is 辛 — yin Metal.
辛 is the yin Metal day stem. Traditional imagery is a starting reference, not a personality verdict.
Points to: 辛 (Day stem (xīn-hài))
- The day master element has a frequency count of 2 in this chart.
The visible-character frequency for Metal is 2. This is a starting observation only, not a strength or personality score.
Points to: 辛 (Day stem)
- Fire and Water are tied for the highest count (3 each of 8).
Five-element balance in Bazi is descriptive, not prescriptive. When the top counts are tied, we report the tie rather than picking one — we do not say "you lack X" or recommend remedies, and that framing is not in the engine output.
Points to: 火 (Fire tally)水 (Water tally)
